In Inquiry to Innovation, I learned how to be a UC Game Changer by making an impact to my environment. Through being a UC Game Changer, I gained the knowledge of how to be more creative, collaborative, and innovative which is necessary to address and solve real world problems at the University of Cincinnati. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration with my peers and using skills learned from readings such as A Whack on the Side of the Head by Roger von Oech, my team was able to identify a problem on the University of Cincinnati’s campus and propose solutions to successfully resolve the issue. You can read about our proposed solution in our Executive Summary seen below and the organization we created to solve these problems, UCWE.
During the entire semester, I was instructed to keep a journal to reflect about a prompt given in class or about how the activities completed in class aided our team in our semester long projects. My journal entries can be seen below where the reader can get a sense of what exercises I went through inside and outside of class to grow as a more creative and innovative thinker.
The experience I gained through Inquiry to Innovation gave me the skills that will translate directly to the work place. Collaboration among different disciplines was stressed heavily throughout the semester and is important in the work place as a company is comprised of multiple disciplines with different ways of thinking. Knowing how to communicate with multiple disciplines is key to the success of any business. Another skill learned in the class was coming up with creative solutions to problems. I explored different techniques in class to find solutions which is an important part of my job as an engineer.
Inquiry to Innovation not only taught me how to solve problems, but let me identify and deal with ones in the world around me.
